EAB recognizes Financial Reporting and Analysis unit

The CSU Employee Appreciation Board recognized the Financial Reporting and Analysis unit in Business and Financial Services in December with a pizza lunch and CSU swag.

Financial Reporting and Analysis is responsible for ensuring that transactions entered in the University’s accounting system are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as well as federal, state and University rules. Most notably, the unit is responsible for preparing the CSU System’s annual financial statements including footnotes and related state reporting. The unit plays a pivotal role in closing the books at fiscal year end and works hard to provide high quality work products on behalf of the University.

The unit has been understaffed for over a year due to a variety of circumstances. It has been operating for many months while down three staff members and has continued to meet internal and external deadlines.

“Every member of the team has stepped up to ensure the success of the unit, the department and the University in meeting its requirements and stay on track with responsibilities” said Jennifer Pollman, financial reporting and analysis manager. “As the manager of the unit, I am so grateful for everyone’s willingness to chip in and pick up the slack. It is no easy feat to take on the workload of three people for an extended period of time and stay on the same timeline as when fully staffed. It is stressful, unrelenting work, and everyone maintains a positive attitude no matter how frustrating things get or how heavy the load feels.”

Executive Director/Controller Dave Ryan added, “I am extremely proud of the work that FRA does on behalf of the university. FRA is the financial spine of the university, responsible for accurate and timely reporting of financial information, some of which is very complex. CSU enjoyed another fiscal year with no material weaknesses with our audit opinion. Clean financial reports give assurance to those that invest in our bonds that we have good internal controls, reducing our borrowing costs and allowing the university to deploy those savings throughout the university to meet our mission.”

The Employee Appreciation Board sincerely appreciates the unwavering dedication and positive attitude of the Financial Reporting and Analysis unit, especially during challenging and stressful times.
